Reflecting on 2024 So Far: Highs and Lows
As we approach the halfway mark of 2024, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the journey we've been on at Gem Socials. The past few months have been a whirlwind of highs and lows, filled with challenges and triumphs that have shaped our path forward. From raising awareness for community groups to navigating unexpected staffing changes, this year has been a testament to our resilience and growth.
Highs: Empowering Community Groups and Achieving Great Results
Ride the Wave festival
One of the most rewarding aspects of our work this year has been collaborating with community groups to amplify their messages and drive impactful results. A standout success story has been our partnership with the Ride the Wave Festival, a charity event aimed at supporting the homeless in Port Macquarie.
From December 2023 to May 2024, we dedicated our efforts to increasing the festival's reach, engagement, and overall impact. By leveraging targeted social media strategies and engaging content, we saw incredible results. Our efforts led to a 2488% increase in reach on Facebook alone, and a 114,214% boost in engagement on social media platforms. Additionally, clicks to the festival's website surged by 1,355%, translating to a significant rise in ticket sales and volunteer sign-ups.
To put this into perspective, our campaign for Ride the Wave included a series of compelling video stories highlighting the festival's mission and the dedicated volunteers behind it. These videos garnered over 10,000 views, sparking conversations and inspiring action within the community. The festival also saw a significant increase in volunteer participation compared to the previous year.
Make a Difference PMQ
Another noteworthy achievement has been our work with the Make a Difference PMQ initiative. By creating and promoting content that showcases their weekly food service shifts and the dedication of their 200 volunteers, we managed to enhance their online presence and boost community involvement. Our campaigns resulted in a huge increase in social media followers (120% on Instagram over 5 months, 7% on Facebook) and steady rise in engagement rates (218% increase in comments on Instagram alone), ultimately driving more support and donations for their cause.
Lifeline MidCoast
We also had the pleasure of collaborating with Lifeline Midcoast. Our focused social media strategies led to a 100% increase in reach and a 183% boost in engagement for their social media channels.
Lows: Overcoming Staffing Challenges
Of course, no journey is without its bumps in the road. One of the most challenging moments of the year came when we lost a full-time staff member just before a major event. This unexpected change tested our capacity and resilience, forcing us to quickly adapt and find alternative solutions to ensure the event's success.
In the face of this challenge, I realised the true strength of our freelance marketing community. Over the years, we've built and nurtured a network of talented professionals who are just as passionate about our mission as we are. By reinforcing our connections with creative partners like Jackson James Creative, Are Creative, Neopitch, and The Strategy Studio, we were able to not only fill the gap but also elevate the quality of our work.
We’ve managed the social media for other exciting events such as the 2024 Waste Conference in Coffs Harbour and feature Costa Georgiadis and his team for Port Macquarie environmental consulting agency, Impact Environmenta; and also for the ArtWalk 2024 event lead up and roving social media (on the night) and we’re looking forward to Luminosity 2024 in July!
Embracing Technology and Refining Processes
Another key takeaway from this experience was the importance of embracing technology and continuously refining our processes. With the help of collaborative apps and innovative tools, we've streamlined our workflows, reducing administrative tasks and freeing up more time for what truly matters: creating engaging content.
Tools like Monday.com and Canva have become integral to our project management, allowing us to track progress, assign tasks, and collaborate seamlessly with our partners. This shift has significantly reduced the time spent on admin, enabling us to focus on crafting content that resonates with our audience and drives meaningful engagement.
For instance, our recent campaign for the Parkinson's Support Group involved creating social media videos and email newsletters to raise awareness about their community group services. By leveraging video editing software and email marketing platforms, we were able to produce high-quality content efficiently, reaching a broader audience and increasing awareness about the group's mission.
Looking Ahead: Continuously Evolving
As we move forward, I am more confident than ever in our ability to adapt and thrive in the face of challenges. The highs and lows of 2024 have taught us valuable lessons about resilience, collaboration, and the power of technology. We will continue to embrace these learnings, striving to deliver even greater results for our clients and community partners.
I'm excited about the future and the opportunities it holds. With a strengthened team, refined processes, and a commitment to excellence, we are poised to achieve new heights and make a lasting impact. Thank you for being part of this journey with us, and here's to a successful and fulfilling rest of the year!
